Macmillan Cake Off at Oulton Manor

Competition was in the air at the Oulton Manor Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning on 30 September as residents, relatives and staff had baked cakes for a ‘cake off’.

Head chef Judith Huby was the judge and she had a very difficult task narrowing down the wide range of scrumptious entries.

Wild West Coffee Morning Raises £135 for Macmillan

A Wild West coffee morning has raised £135 for Macmillan Cancer Support at The Manor House Knaresborough.

Residents and staff invited family, friends and the community to join them for a cuppa and fabulous cakes and scones made in The Manor House kitchen on Friday 30 September.

Yorkshire in Bloom Award Hat-trick For Wetherby Manor

Wetherby Manor in Wetherby has scooped three awards at this year's Yorkshire in Bloom competition. The outstanding achievement - a gold award and category winner in the Public and Private Establishments category and a discretionary Yorkshire Rose Community Award (Small Groups) - follows a gold award last year.

The judges described the gardens as ‘a total joy’ and said ‘words just cannot describe the beautiful layout of flowers, sustainable planting, hanging baskets’. They also commented that they could not find any areas to improve on, as the commitment and enthusiasm of the staff, gardeners and management were plain to see.

Oulton Manor Attends Reception at Leeds Civic Hall

Oulton Manor lifestyle coordinator Kim Eames and residents Eileen Rothera and Audrey Thackery attended a civic reception at Leeds Civic Hall on 18 August, celebrating the Tea Cosy Cafe in Rothwell and work to make Rothwell and Oulton a more dementia friendly community.

The event was hosted by The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Gerry Harper and The Lady Mayoress, Miss Lynne Scholes. Guests were invited by Peter Smith BEM, the founder of the Tea Cosy Cafe and community dementia champion.

Oulton Manor Links With The Tea Cosy Memory Cafe

Oulton Manor care home, which provides residential and dementia care for elderly people, has linked up with the Tea Cosy Memory Cafe in Rothwell to share events.

The monthly cafe was set up by local volunteer dementia champions Peter and Liz Smith almost five years ago. They became interested in the care of people with dementia after taking care of Peter’s mother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and then vascular dementia.
