Yorkshire in Bloom Double for Hadrian Healthcare Homes

This year two Hadrian Healthcare homes have been recognised in the Yorkshire in Bloom awards. Wetherby Manor has won gold again for the third year running, and first-time entrant The Manor House Knaresborough has picked up a silver award.

Staff from both the homes represented the gardening teams at the awards ceremony at York Racecourse on 12 September.

Lucy Gradwell, manager of The Manor House Knaresborough said: “We are thrilled to have achieved a silver award this year. The judges recognised that the gardens are just over one year old and still becoming established. They commented on the cheerful display of flowers for residents and passers-by to enjoy and on our lovely outdoor seating area. The gardening team do a great job throughout the year.”

Judith Scurr, manager of Wetherby Manor said: “We’re delighted to have won a gold award again, it’s a tribute to all the hard work that the gardening team do to maintain the standard year on year. The judges commented that the gardens must be a delight to all who live and work at Wetherby Manor as well as to those who walk past, and indeed they are, we often get compliments and residents enjoy them year-round.

“Some of the residents like to be involved in planting in good weather. We grow some of our own vegetables and flowers for displays, and have growing competitions. Residents are also involved in garden planning and enjoy talking to the gardeners about what they’re doing and visiting the greenhouse.”
