Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate Open Luxury £15m Care Home on the Duchy Estate

A new luxury care home in Harrogate was officially opened by the Mayor of Harrogate Councillor Bernard Bateman MBE and the Mayoress Mrs Linda Bateman, on Friday 7 December.

Andrew Jones MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough also attended the event.

New Luxury Harrogate Care Home Now Open

Luxury elderly care provider Hadrian Healthcare Group have opened their latest care home, The Manor House Harrogate.

The development, representing an investment of over £13m, is situated on Cornwall Road and is part of the prestigious Duchy Estate. It provides residential, dementia and respite care for elderly people. Around 100 full and part-time jobs have been created within the local area.

Oulton Manor Resident Helps to Launch Leeds Poppy Appeal

Mrs Winnie Beane, a resident at Oulton Manor, helped to launch the Leeds Poppy Appeal on Friday 26 October.

Winnie, now 97, grew up in Methley, Leeds. During the Second World War she was a radio operator in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF), stationed at RAF Ouston in Northumberland.

Memory Walk Fundraising Success for Wetherby Manor Staff

Staff from luxury care home Wetherby Manor in Wetherby have raised a fantastic £1,500 for the Alzheimer's Society by taking part in three of the charity's Memory Walks.

The 11 walkers took part in 6km walks at York Racecourse, the National Trust's Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire and Temple Newsam in Leeds.

Four Football Legends Visit Oulton Manor

Leeds United legends Peter Lorimer, Eddie Gray, Frank Gray and Jimmy Lumsden joined residents at Oulton Manor for homemade afternoon tea on 10 October.

The event was one of a series of local Dementia Cafes for people living with dementia and their families and friends, hosted at different venues each time, organised by Peter Smith of Dementia Friendly Rothwell and supported by The Leeds United Foundation.

Wetherby Manor Scoops Fourth Gold Yorkshire in Bloom Award

Wetherby Manor has won a fourth consecutive gold in the Yorkshire in Bloom awards, announced at the awards ceremony at York Racecourse on 11 September.

The awards judge visited Wetherby Manor in July to make her assessment and commented on the way the garden was designed with residents in mind to create “a brilliant therapeutic environment”, the extensive use of annual bedding providing wow factor, and the many visiting birds attracted by the bird tables.

‘Postcards to Home’ Brings Back Holiday Memories

This summer Oulton Manor teamed up with local newsletter LS26 and Dementia Friendly Rothwell on a project to link the wider community with residents through holiday postcards, ‘Postcards to Home’.

LS26 asked people going on holiday to send a postcard to residents at Oulton Manor, including a few words on how their holiday was going.

Enquiries Open for New Hadrian Healthcare Home in Harrogate

Hadrian Healthcare Group is now taking enquiries for its latest luxury care home - The Manor House Harrogate.  The development, representing an investment of over £13m, is nearing completion and is due to open in November this year.

Situated on the prestigious Duchy Estate, The Manor House Harrogate will have 87 large private suites and will provide residential, dementia and respite care. It will create around 100 full and part-time jobs within the local area.

60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration for Couple Who Met in Paris

Mollie and Peter Nelson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on 26 July with a party for family and friends at The Manor House care home in Knaresborough where they now live.

The couple met in Paris in 1956 whilst on a Methodist holiday trip. Peter first held Mollie’s hand at the top of the Eiffel Tower and their first kiss was at the Arc de Triomphe.

Catwalking with The Bowes Museum

Residents at The Manor House Barnard Castle have had an insight into the glamorous world of fashion photography and a sneak peek at some of the photos from ‘Catwalking: Fashion through the Lens of Chris Moore’, the new exhibition opening soon (7 July) at the famous Bowes Museum.

Julia Dunn, education learning coordinator for The Bowes, led the session at The Manor House which involved discussion of the photographs and modelling a fabulous white feather shawl from the museum’s handling collection.

The watercolour class at The Manor House Whickham has won an award for their dedication to improving their artistic skills.

They were awarded the second prize in the Learning for Life category of Gateshead Council’s learningSkills awards, and the award plaque will be displayed at The Manor House.

The Manor House Knaresborough Celebrates in Style

Residents, families and staff celebrated the Royal wedding in style with a fabulous afternoon garden party on Saturday 19 May, followed by an FA Cup Final big screen special event.

The garden party was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Knaresborough Councillor David Goode and Mrs Catherine Goode. Delicious homemade sandwiches, scones and cakes were served throughout the afternoon and entertainment was provided by singer Emma James.

Wetherby Manor Dedicates a Brick at St Gemma’s Hospice

Residents, staff and relatives at Wetherby Manor care home in Wetherby have raised £500 to support St Gemma’s Hospice, Leeds by sponsoring a glass brick in the hospice’s Walls of Light.

A party of 20 people including the Mayor of Wetherby Councillor Norma Harrington, relatives of former residents and Wetherby Manor staff visited St Gemma’s to dedicate the brick on Friday 20 April.

‘Keep in Touch’ Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s UK

The Manor House care home in Barnard Castle, St Mary’s Parish Church and Barnard Castle School have been working together on a music and art event to raise funds for dementia research charity Alzheimer’s UK.

It includes an exhibition of artwork at St Mary’s Church on Newgate, Barnard Castle, created by residents at The Manor House and students from Barnard Castle School inspired by communication from the 1940s to the present day. The exhibition runs until Thursday 3

Easter Bonnet Parade at Wetherby Manor

Residents at Wetherby Manor enjoyed the Easter weekend with families and friends and a host of fun activities, from Easter Egg Treasure Hunts to an Easter Bonnet Parade accompanied by delicious homemade Easter cupcakes and coffee.

The stunning array of bonnets, created during craft activity sessions, featured all things Easter from rabbits, chicks and lambs to flowers and eggs plus ladybirds and butterflies.
